Emission Trading to control pollution in 3 more districts
Via Times of India
The Emission Trading Scheme, which has been implemented in Surat, will soon be introduced in Ahmedabad, Rajkot, and Vadodara districts, the state government told the assembly on Tuesday. Emissions trading or cap-and-trade is a market-based approach used to control by providing economic incentives for achieving reductions in the emissions of pollutants.
Minister of state for forest and environment, Mukesh Patel replying to a question by Vejalpur MLA Amit Thakkar, told the assembly that a limit on the amount of a pollutant that may be emitted has been fixed. The limit is allocated or sold to firms in the form of emission permits. It gives them the right to emit a specific volume of the specified pollutant.
